R.E.A.D. Event Volunteer Oppportunities

Cashier
Cashiers are the most important point of contact for our pop-up customers. Not only do Cashiers need to facilitate fast, efficient and effective point-of-sale purchase transactions, they also need to provide exemplary customer service at all times with all customers. In-person and online training is provided on the point-of-sale program R.E.A.D. uses.
Adults ages 18+ who:

feel comfortable navigating web-based sales program (e.g., scanning book titles, placing in cart, entering in shipping information, entering in credit card information, handling cash transactions)

are willingness to have Square app downloaded on their phone
-
have good customer service skills
-
can handle conflict or cranky customers

are solutions-oriented for problems that may arise

are dependable and punctual
Required: criminal background check, passion for children’s books, completion of point-of-sale training
Preferred: Spanish speaking, willingness to wear pajamas
Time Commitment: 2.5 hours per event signed up for

Book Whisperer (at event)
A book whisperer floats throughout the event talking up various books available for purchase and answers questions or help customers problem solve.
Adults ages 14+ who:

feel comfortable talking about books and making recommendations

are willing to read and review books before events to become familiar with text

are solutions-oriented for problems that may arise

are dependable and punctual
Required: criminal background check, passion for children’s books
Preferred: Spanish speaking, willingness to wear pajamas

Book Talker (in classroom)
A book talk is a short, engaging, and enthusiastic presentation designed to inspire children to read a book. A book talker promotes books to be offered at the book fair by visiting a classroom and reading 1 to 2 books aloud, then share highlights of other available books in fun ways. For example, a Book Talker may hold up a book and give a brief summary with the following starter: This book was like nothing else I’ve ever read because OR The one thing I’ll never forget about this book is OR This book is perfect for someone who:
